Bridget "Bertha" (D'Atri) Sylvester, 97, of West Hartford, beloved wife of the late Alfred A. Sylvester, joined her heavenly family on Thursday, August 11, 2016.
Born in Hartford, she lived in West Hartford most of her life and was a communicant of St. Mark the Evangelist Church since 1951.
Bertha was an active member of the Rocky Hill and Elmwood Senior Centers, she had many wonderful times with a group of friends since the age of 16, named the Tau Omicron Beta Girls and also, volunteered many years for the Hartford Hospital Auxiliary.
Bertha is survived by three daughters and sons-in-laws Loretta and Aldo Prario of Rocky Hill, Carol and Fred Bailey Jr., of Vernon, Gloria and Richard Ameika of Vernon; a sister Mary Mandzuk of Wethersfield; a sister-in-law Patricia D'Atri of Agawam, MA; seven grandchildren, James Connors of Rocky Hill, Carolyn Campanelli and her husband Joseph of Wellesley Hills, MA, Chris Connors of West Hartford, Fred Bailey, III., and his wife Shelly of Portland, Dan Bailey of Farmington, Laura Ameika of Milford, Richard Ameika, Jr., and his wife Amy of Madison; and nine great-grandchildren Alexandra, Connor, and Jac Campanelli; Victoria and Frederick Bailey, IV.; Colleen and Ian Hugo; and Kylie and Olivia Ameika. Bertha is also survived by her extended family Kathy Lynn, and Kim Elisa Prario; and special friends Denise Cagno, Eva Custer and Bruce Charette, and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her five brothers James, Leo, Louis, Anthony, and Francis D'Atri and a sister Philomena Gelfenbien.
Funeral procession will be Saturday, (August 13), at 9:30am from the Sheehan-Hilborn-Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Ave., with a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated at 10:00am at St. Mark the Evangelist Church, West Hartford. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, Bloomfield. Calling hour will be prior to funeral procession from 8:30-9:30am at the funeral home.
