Obituary for Steven C. Christy

Steven C. Christy
Steven C. Christy of West Hartford, beloved husband of Theresa (Muenkel) Christy, died Friday, November 18, 2016. In addition to his wife, he leaves his parents Constantine “Gus” Christy and Catherine (Salemis) Christy, also of West Hartford; his parents-in-law Ted and Loretta Muenkel, of Hauppauge, New York; and numerous loving family members and friends. Steven was predeceased by his sister Diane Christy. Steven lived most of his life in West Hartford but also enjoyed time on Cape Cod and in Manhattan. He graduated from Hall High School in 1973 and from Fitchburg State College, Fitchburg, MA in 1984 with a degree in Human Services. He spent his career helping others – first as a social worker at FAVARH and then as a counselor and coordinator of newborn hemoglobinopathy screening programs at the combined UCONN/St. Francis sickle cell clinic. Steven had many interests including art, music, science fiction, football (especially the Green Bay Packers!), cooking, aviation history and piloting small planes, but his favorite pastime was spending time with friends and family. He was a man who loved to laugh and showed us time and again that “Laughter is the Best Medicine”. His physical presence will be missed by many, but we carry in our hearts the memories and inspiration he gave us. Calling hours will be held at Sheehan Hilborn Breen Funeral Home, 1084 New Britain Avenue, West Hartford, on Friday, December 2, from 5 – 8 pm. There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Helena’s Church, Echo Lane, West Hartford, on Saturday, December 3, at 10 am followed by burial at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Hartford. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to any cause of the contributor’s choosing.
