The Memorial Candle Program has been designed to help offset the costs associated with the hosting this Tribute Website in perpetuity. Through the lighting of a memorial candle, your thoughtful gesture will be recorded in the Book of Memories and the proceeds will go directly towards helping ensure that the family and friends of George Smith can continue to memorialize, re-visit, interact with each other and enhance this tribute for future generations.

Thank you.

Condolences

Condolence From: Mike Morrow
Condolence: I just learned that George passed away three years ago. I'm too late, as usual. Very sorry. My belated sympathies to family and friends.

I'm the once young journalist to whom George kindly gave a cameo on page 139 of Siege at Hue. Seems like yesterday.

Lives diverge. I still live in Asia. I'm a cheesemaker in Mongolia, with a small fromagerie and café in Ulaanbaatar. We make a fine yak cheese omelette, a ricotta cheese cake that has a bit of reputation, and a black currant kefir smoothie that almost everybody likes. If you're ever this way, you're welcome.

Kind regards,

Mike

Condolence: Mary Ellen, I am so very sorry for your loss. I was unaware of George's passing. My heart is broken. I have such happy memories of George. He will be missed by all of his friend and the staff of Hebrew HealthCare Senior Day Center. He had such spirit and love. Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Condolence From: Mary E Middleton
Condolence: I'm so very sorry Mary Ellen, Anna, Kathy, Lynn, Leslie, Jim, and the rest of the family. My Grampy (Al Smith) was very proud of having George as a nephew. I was also proud to have a writer for a cousin, though I only have a couple memories of him. He's in a better place now and I hope knowing that brings you peace. I prayed for all of you and will continue to do so.

All my love, Mary E Middleton

Condolence: Dear Mary Ellen and family. I was saddened to hear the news of George's passing. Although I have never met him, he sounds like he was a great person who made many lasting contributions in life. May your sadness at this time be eased by the many happy memories your shared before his illness.
